"The heat is on! Warmer weather is here, and we're gearing up for ways to wear less makeup in the summer heat without compromising our style. Luckily, we found summer beauty looks that are both beautiful and brazen that is inspired by the runways and makeup artists around the globe.
BRONZER IS BACK
https://www.instagram.com/p/ByUnY_LnX3s/
Contouring can be a bit heavy during summer's hot days, plus, who wants to check their makeup all day to make sure it's still on? You can still accentuate your best facial features, but with a much softer technique and product. With a large fluffy brush, you can lightly dust a powder bronzer all over the face, and dip in again to lightly contour the cheekbones, jawline, and sides of the nose.
Makeup artist
@makeup_by_lira used the
Hourglass Cosmetics Ambient Lighting Bronzer (Photo above) in Radiant Bronze Light, which added warmer tones to the model's medium skin tone. Hourglass also created more shades of this bronzing powder for fairer complexions.
PRO TIP: Don't be afraid to dab a bit of shimmery bronzer on the lids when you're in a hurry. Throw on a coast of mascara, a gloss, and you're good!
GLOSSY SKIN
https://www.instagram.com/p/ByVcjxFHuOt
Some of us ladies are already graced with glossy and glowing skin the summer, but for the rest of the world, we need a little assistance. This summer's makeup look is all about showing some skin without heavy concealers--which means taking care of your skin first! If bacterial acne is something that plagues your skin, you will be happy to know that our blue light technology will help! Tria's
Positively Clear 3-Step Acne Skincare Solution will get you the clear skin that you've been dreaming about! Once you start seeing your flawless skin emerge, you will notice you'll need less foundation to hide your spots.
To achieve this "glass skin" look, you can start out with some light coverage with SPF protection with a product like
It Cosmetics' CC+ Cream with SPF 50+ which will even out and correct your skin tone before you apply your color. Apply a cream-based blush like the
NARS all-purpose stick The Multiple to your cheeks (it also works on eyes and lips) and dab with your fingertips to blend. Then it is time for the "icing" on the cake--
BECCA Cosmetics' Skin Love Glow Glaze Stick is what
@nikki_makeup used to give her model that iconic dewy look on her cheekbones. This highlighting balm should be used sparingly on the areas you want to add a healthy glow!
PRO TIP: Do not add these types of highlighter balms on top of a powder product. It will cake up your look if you aren't careful!
GLITTER EYELINER
https://www.instagram.com/p/BwgCbLxpvpc/
If you are daring enough to add a little pizazz to your look this summer, a great beauty trend to try is liquid glitter eyeliner. The trick to this trend is to let it steal the show without allowing your other makeup choices overshadow it. We like the gold glitter option because it looks pretty on all skin tones, and can be worn with most shades of lipstick without clashing.
One of our favorite looks of the season is a simple look where the eyelid is color washed with a
matte peach eyeshadow and adorned with a gold glitter cat-eye flick. A natural pair of false lashes would add more glam to the look--perfect for a date night!
LIME GREEN NAILS
https://www.instagram.com/p/ByTVRYlgDe9
Now here's a trend that we've missed for at least 20+ years--lime green nails! The shade of
lime green is currently trending on Instagram as it is--clothing, hair color, you name it. Thinking back to the lime green biker shorts from the 90s, it sure did make our legs look tan in the summer!
The beautifully polished nails in the photo above are by
@manilovebyann using
Semilac professional brand gel polish #182 Strong Lime with an iridescent product called
Efekt Syrenki from Indigo. To do your own nails at home with this lime look, try
China Glaze polish in Trip of a Lime Time with an opal top coat nail polish to add a shimmery shift to the color.
CLASSIC RED LIP
https://www.instagram.com/p/B0rh48PF403/
When in doubt of which lipstick to apply before heading out, wherever it may be, there's always red! We absolutely love a matte velvety red lipstick for any occasion--your best friend's wedding, a day at the beach, or a dinner date with the girls. We prefer liquid lipstick for lasting power during hotter days and love
Kylie Cosmetics' Red Velvet Lip Kit that includes a lip liner. The warmer tone in the lipstick gives it a classy look and doesn't look too bright or harsh on most skin tones.
If you insist on a head-turning bright red lip, look no further than
Kylie Cosmetics' No Sleep Lip Kit, which is a bright coral red that will get a lot of attention this summer.
PRO TIP: When wearing matte red lips, make sure your lips have been exfoliated and nourished before you apply. Try the
e.l.f Lip Exfoliator to remove dead skin cells and wear the
Laneige Lip Mask overnight. If lines and wrinkles are an issue around your mouth, we recommend the
Nuvesse Firming & Anti-Aging Lip Serum Roller to restore the skin's natural volume and elasticity.
A STATEMENT LIP
https://www.instagram.com/p/Bx_HlhIlOY2
Yes, a statement lip is this summer's lipstick trend--but which shade to choose? This stunning purple orchid shade is making waves on social media, and we love it!
@beleza_do_glam makes a gorgeous
bright purple liquid lipstick that is perfect for summer or any time of year for that matter!
PRO TIP: The same rules apply as the red lipstick--keep your eye makeup simple to allow the lipstick color to play its part.
THE WET HAIR LOOK
https://www.instagram.com/p/BwV5RDigBSG
If you thought Kim Kardashian-West was the only one who could get away with the
wet hair look, think again! The secret to this hairstyle is that your hair is not actually wet, it just appears to be so! Our favorite method to get this look is to use sea salt spray on wet hair, then work some styling mousse from root to tip, and the big surprise, men's wet look hair gel. You work the gel through the hair and concentrate on the ends of the hair while scrunching it with your hands. You finish off the prep work by using a daily serum to add shine. Then you will grab your hair dryer and dry your hair to seal in the look.
We found this method on
More.com and we can't wait for you to try it out this summer!
HAIR ACCESSORIES
https://www.instagram.com/p/BsupjKHF6Y3/
We haven't seen hair accessories like this since the early 90s--and they're back full force. Behold the return of the
scrunchie! And you've got to admit, they really do look cute when used properly. Perfect for a summer up-do, a scrunchie or a "scrunchie scarf" can spice up your mom bun on summer vacation. Take a look at
@senorita.scrunchie's beautiful floral scrunchie scarf (photo above) when used on a regular ponytail.
Other hot hair accessories include
oversized barrettes with pearls or tortoiseshell designs placed on sleek hairstyles. With so many patterns and styles to choose from, you can go conservative or completely wild with hair accessories this summer!
MONOCHROMATIC MAKEUP
https://www.instagram.com/p/BwCw57HFsxF/
The monochromatic makeup style has survived several seasons as a trend, and we're beginning to wonder if it's here to stay. The rules are simple--match your eyeshadow to your lipstick (blush, too) and call it a look! For summer, our favorite monochromatic look this peachy style (photo above) by
@mariastefan.makeup which also showcases a beautifully drawn cat eye.
The best selling
Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette would be a great place to start with your monochromatic looks. There are enough sizzling peach shades along with everyday neutrals and darker colors to get you through more than one season of looks. For a perfect peachy pout, take a look at the photo above where the artist used the
Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb to set those lips on fire."
